Onward travel to southern Thailand

Of course we hope that you will enjoy your stay in Cha-am. But maybe you want to discover other nice locations in Thailand. From Cha-am (or Hua Hin) it is no problem to continue your journey. There are all modes of transportation available.

Taxi/Minibus

A Luxury minvan used as taxi

The fastest and most comfortable mode of transport is by Taxi/Minibus. From Cha-am you can hire a taxi to locations all over Thailand. To the south you can go for example to:

  • Ban Saphan, Ban Krut, 220 km
  • Chumphon (Ferry to Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, Koh Samui), 320 km
  • Ranong (Burmese Islands, Border), 400km
  • Surat Thani (Ferry to Koh Samui), 500 km
  • Khao Lak (Boats to the Similan Islands), app. 550 km
  • Krabi, Phuket, depending on destination 600-700 km

Please note: On longer trips the driver cannot go back on the same day. A pick-up for a trip back to Cha-am can be arranged. we are glad to help you with the planning of your trip. We at Scandy Resort have our own Minibus but also can help you to make other arrangements.

Bus

Beside the destinations mentioned above, there are regular busses to all places in the South up to the Malaysian border. Some VIP Busses will only stop in Hua Hin but reservations can be made in Cha-am as well. Prices vary according to your destination and the type of bus.

Most long distance busses are going overnight. After your arrival at the bus station of your destination you will have to arrange transport to your final destination. However that is normally not a problem as long as you don't arrive late in the afternoon.

Trains

Only a few local trains will stop in Cha-am. For long distance trips you will usually depart from Hua Hin (25 km south). But you can buy tickets for all routes in Thailand at the Cha-am Railway station. Here some examples for intersesting tourist destinations:

  • Ban Saphan/Ban Krut, 220 km
  • Chumphon (Boats to Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, Koh Samui), 300 km
  • Surat Thani (Busses/Ferry to Koh Samui, Busses to Phuket, Krabi etc.), 480 km
  • Trang (Koh Lanta and several small islands) , app. 600 km
  • Hat Yai (Bus/Boat to Koh Turatao, Langkawi), app. 800 km
  • Butterworth Malaysia (Penang), app. 1150 km

It is possible to go all the way to Singapore via Penang and Kuala Lumpur by changing the train 2 times. Prices in the second class air-con sleeper are very reasonable. The fare to Surat Thani is depending on the train and service only 15-20 Euro.

If you are coming from the south you have to leave the train in Hua Hin in order to go to Cha-am. At the train station there you will always find a taxi, which will take you to Cha-am for around 300 THB. Should you have a reservation at the Scandy Resort & Guesthouse, we can arrange a pick-up service for you.
